Castle recently used in the film, Harry Potter as well as the
newly opened £14 million restoration of the Alnwick
Garden in fact, Hawkhill Farmhouse is one of the nearest farmhouse
B&B's to the castle & garden.
Alnwick also boasts a host of tea rooms and cafes, restaurants and public houses - from traditional to modern. There is a wide variety of shops as well as a weekly market for those in search of a bargain.
You can never get away from Northumberland's often turbulent past, wherever you go there are castles (in fact Northumberland has more castles and fortified houses than any other English county), and remains of when the county was a far less tranquil place.
The counties archeological treasures span the centuries from Stone Age rock art and hill forts located near Rothbury and Wooler (to name but two), and Roman remains - The most famous being the World Heritage Site that is Hadrian's Wall.

For the lover of nature and natural history, Northumberland offers mile upon mile of golden sandy beaches and rugged rocky shoreline to explore. There is the RSPB reserve of nearby Coquet Island (boat trips available from Amble), as well as the famous Farne Islands - A haven for seabirds and Grey Seals (boat trips available from Seahouses.
Inland is the spectacular beauty of the Northumberland National Park, including the magnificent unspoilt landscape of the Cheviot Hills - "The land of the Far Horizons".
